Although
not as long as Noordhoek Beach round the corner, Kommetjie's Long
Beach remains one of the most beautiful beaches in the Cape Peninsula.
Whereas many of Cape Town's Atlantic beaches gets very crowded
during the peak season (December to February), Long Beach never
suffers this fate! Enjoy a beautiful and un-crowded beach with
epic waves. Long Beach starts from the rock just in front of the
beachcombers in the fore ground of the photograph.
The size of Long Beach is such that it comfortably provides for
bathers, surfers, divers, skiers, fisherman, yachting, kayaking
and walking without ever becoming crowded.
The 'main' beach in Kommetjie which provide public change rooms,
showers and toilets is situated at the opposite end of Long Beach
compared to the Beach House. About 5 minute walk along the beach
from the Guest House. The most consistent and one of the easiest
waves in the area breaks at that end of the beach. Dozens of grommets
can be found surfing here when school is closed.
Long Beach from any of the Beach House's Bedrooms.
Further out and a little north is Outer Kom which offers massive
waves on a good day.
A small selection of the many pictures of Long Beach on the Beach
House's site is displayed. The beach immediately in front of the
Beach House is called Washing Machine by the locals, and although
the waves are not often big here they are frequently lots of fun.
