Western Cape Weather Forecast

The weather in especially Cape Town can sometimes be very unpredictable. If you are planning an outing or activity which is weather-based, please check the weather resources or even contact the company you have e.g. arranged a shark dive through, and verify with them if adventures will be affected due to changing weather patterns.

The climate in South Africa ranges from desert and semi-desert in the north west of the country to sub-tropical on the eastern coastline. The rainy season for most of the country is in the summer, except in the Western Cape where the rains come in the winter. Rainfall in the Eastern Cape is distributed evenly throughout the year.

Our Seasonal Weather:

Spring and Autumn:
Spring is from September to October and autumn from April to May, and are ideal almost everywhere. Spring is also the best time to see vast expanses of the Northern Cape carpeted with wildflowers.

Summer:
From November to March it can get very hot...in excess of 35 Celsius in some places. If you visit Cape Town, the Garden Route or other popular areas during this time, it's essential to book accommodation in advance. On the plus side, the high summer months offer some great festivals, including Cape Town's MCQP and Cape Town Pride, as well as the Pink Loerie Festival in Knysna.

Winter:
South Africa can be visited comfortably during winter (June to August). However, depending on what you plan to do, it's worth paying attention to the seasons. Winter in general is cooler, drier and ideal for hiking and outdoor pursuits. Because vegetation is less dense and thirsty animals congregate around rivers and other permanent water sources, winter is also the best time for wildlife-watching.
